Tanabata, also known as the Star Festival is held on July 7. People write their wishes on small strips of papers and hang them on bamboo branches. It’s said that Tanabata’s origin dates back to more than 2,000 years ago with a Chinese story. Once there were two lovers, a weaver named Shukujo and a cowherd named Kengyu living in space. They were forced to separate and live on opposite sides of the Milky Way and meet only once a year on Tanabata. Tsurugaoka Hachimangu holds the Tanabata festival every year.
